Padrón 1964 Natural - Premium No More

This light earthy tasting cigar was very smooth, had a good draw, burned evenly but needed to be re-lit twice. I know that happens from time to time, but for a premium cigar that was disappointing. The first third of the cigar had a small amount of spice. I prefer not to have spicy cigars, but this had just a touch and was pleasant. The rest of the cigar had a light earthy flavor.

  1. Diamond E is dead-on. The last Padron 64 I smoked was rather tasteless, bland. The Padron 1964 was .......boring. Plus, the construction sucked. I have no idea why the quality has deteriorated. Perhaps, Padron is just trading on it's name at this point and overcharging on quality. Diamond E is unafraid to write the truth. The emperor is running around naked with a classic cigar label as a fig leaf. In fact, my rating is closer to a 2.5

  2. This is a mystery inside a riddle which can only be solved by strapping Jose O. Padron up to a polygraph machine, Meet the Fockkers style. My last two 1964s have been DUDS. At the same time, I have had some terrific smokes. Yesterday I enjoyed a Padron 7000 Maduro and it was a real joy--uber-toasty, sweet, and creamy, perfect draw and burn and only $7/stick! And yet...And yet, Padron claims that this is a 100% Nicaraguan puro when everyone knows that they have been buying metric fracktons on maduro tobacco from the San Andres Valley in Mexico for years. I'm concerned that they are becoming inconsistent and I don't like to pay $15 for an inconsistent cigar, especially when San Lotanos, Padillas, PDRs, and Fuentes deliver a consistently good stogie.--Mamey

  3. Padron 1964 has been forcibly removed from the Square Table of elite cigars.

  4. Diamond E steps forward with the courage to call out the Padron 1964 for its vastly diminished quality and, in a way, for abusing of its loyal consumers by whoring a $4 quality cigar for an obscene $15. Diamond E hammered the first nail into the inglorious Padron 1964 coffin. Then comes The Oil Baron to deliver a thunderous death knell.

    Farewell Padron 1964,
    Premium no more, hurry up and slink out the saloon door;
    Yeah, once finely rolled,
    Diamond E has shown that all that glitters is not gold.

  6. Having been burned twice on these expensive cigars, I will not buy one again. I will smoke one if it's given to me, but they will not con me into another expensive dud. I am not happy about this. The 1964 used to be one of my "go to" cigars and I happily paid the cost premium because I knew it would be terrific. I agree with Diamond E--premium no more!!!!
